Meditation on
Eloheinu v'Elohei Avoteinu

G!d of our ancestors.
Imagine the night sky. Imagine the night sky far from the city, brilliantly lit with a dense carpet of stars. Elohei avoteinu - G!d of our ancestors. The stars our are ancestors.
Imagine back in time, farther, farther, farther back in time. Imagine back in time until the beginning of time, to the Big Bang. Imagine that incomprehensible start to our Universe, 14 billion years ago, when all the matter in in existence now formed. Stars formed. They cycled through star life and died the death of a star, some slowing and gently, burning up, sending heavier elements into the atmosphere. Some died brilliantly, exploding as supernovas, sending even heavier metals into the atmosphere. Those materials given off as stars died eventually brought about the birth of new stars, like our Sun, and planets, like our Earth, and all that it contains, including the primordial matter that gave rise to the first living things on Earth, and then, over the eons, to humans, and eventually to you and to me.
G!d of our ancestors. G!d of stars that live and die, G!d of all there is.
Remember me, I pray, let me not be forgotten.
